Data Protection/Freedom of Information

Access to Patient Information

The treatments of all patient information both manual and electronic will adhere to the Data Protection Act 1998 as well as to strict practice guidelines and Caldicott protocols. No information will be passed to a third party without the written consent of patients or their representatives.

As part of the code of ethics by which Medical staff's actions are governed, any information reviewed as part of the doctor / patient relationship will be treated in the strictest confidence.  It is the duty of all practice staff to maintain that confidentiality at all times.  All information whether held manually or on computer is covered by the Data Protection Act 1998.  However sometimes we have to share information with other health professionals such as district nurses or hospitals, but is strictly monitored on a ‘need to know’ basis only.

Freedom of Information Act 2000

The practice holds a publication list which is a complete guide to the information routinely made available to the public. This will be reviewed at regular intervals and its effectiveness monitored.  The publications are all free unless otherwise indicated.  In these instances an administration fee will be charged.

No information covered by the Data Protection Act 1998 will be divulged under the Freedom of Information Act.
